Monthly Archives: February 2012

Happy Leap Day!

So, I realized that today is only the fourth leap day I’ve encountered in my life.  Wow, I’m young.

Anywho, in honor of leap day, I decided to make a scarf.  Not that scarves have anything to do with February 29th, but I just needed a way to segway into my project.

Now, I didn’t exactly “make” the scarf.  What I did was simply add a little creativeness to an otherwise plain article of clothing.

This is all you need.

I got the scarf from Target and the fabric markers from Walmart.  Pretty simple.

Then, I chose one of my favorite quotes from Shakespeare, “This above all: to thine own self be true.”  All I did was write out the quote on the scarf, and voila!

After trying it on, I realized it needed a little something more.  So I, being not the most artistically-talented person on the planet, just drew on some little twirls to give it some depth while wearing it.

Like I said, not super artistic. But hey, at least I tried!

The final product:

It actually turned out better than I expected.  I think it gives a little bit of a twist to the look of a plain scarf, and the scarf I chose is long enough to also be a beach wrap in the summer.  Also, I’d recommend letting the fabric paint dry overnight before wearing.  The paint I used dried pretty fast, but you definitely don’t want to chance it.

Hope you guys like it!

Fruit and Cheese-Filled French Toast: The Real Breakfast of Champions

So, recently I decided that I needed to make a change, and that change was going to come in the form of working out and eating healthier.  Being the inspired person that I was, I went out and got a membership at the gym and bought myself a Weight Watchers cookbook, even though I knew nothing about diets or Weight Watchers.  And let me say, being on a diet has never tasted so good.

This is what I had for breakfast this morning.

Not only is it mouth-wateringly good, but it’s also very easy and quick to make, even in the morning when the last thing you want to do is make yourself an elaborate breakfast.

All you need are these ingredients:

Oh, and fat free milk.  Forgot to pull that out of the fridge at the time.

Please let me know if you want the recipe.  I do not take credit for any of the recipes I end up sharing on here, unless they are my own and I made them up from scratch (which I did not for this one).  This breakfast leaves you surprisingly full and energized for the morning.  I ate it at about 8 am, and honestly didn’t need to eat again until about 2:30 pm, whereas normally I would be starving around noon.

Like I said above, leave a comment if you’d like the recipe!

Just a Starter

Hi all! My name is Holly and I am the newest addition to the blogging world.  For me, I wanted to start blogging simply to keep track of the ideas and and inspirations I have.  Also, I want to be a source for others to find new, creative things to try.  My plan is to post once a day, for the next year.  Blogging has become such a great way to connect with others and I want to be able to look back on this day in 2013 and see how far I’ve come, creatively and simply as a person.

For now, some things you might want to know about me.

1. My name is Holly, not Hollie.  For some reason, since everyone and their grandmother has to give their child a “unique” name nowadays, I frequently find others trying to spell my name any way but the traditional way.  Hence, the clarification.

2. I’m going to school for Professional Writing, with a minor in psychology.  My ultimate goal in life would be to work for the magazine Psychology Today, but seeing as it’s probably a long shot, I have recently become more fond of the idea of being an author.  This idea is becoming more and more appealing to me because I love to write, and I think it would be more satisfying to write creatively on any topic I choose than to write what others want me to.

3. I’ve recently taken interest in more creative outlets, such as cooking and crafting.  I have never really considered myself an artistic or imaginative person, but I’m trying to convince myself that creativity is a mindset, not a genetic predisposition.  Hopefully this outlook pays off, otherwise I’m out of a blog and a future career.

I’m hoping that this blog is a good source of energy for me.  I love reading about what others think, as I gather most of my creative ideas from others.  With that being said, I’m excited to get started here, and I’m interested in learning more about the blogging world along the way.

Do you guys have any tips or thoughts for me?  If so, I would love to hear them!
