Six Things I Love…Monday?

Alright. I don’t want to be one of those bloggers who apologizes for not posting, but here I am.  Celebrating a little too much for my birthday coupled with a wedding shower and tons of homework this weekend, I find myself finally getting around to writing my weekly post on a Monday.  Whoops, sorry guys.  I know you were all just dying to see what I’m currently loving.  Right?  Right?

1. BzzAgent Why? According to their website, “Connecting people and their favorite brands since 2001, BzzAgent is the leading social marketing company.”  Essentially, this company hands out free products to consumers like you and me, who then “buzz” about their experience with the product.  These bzzagents get the word out about these products via social media or word of mouth.  I signed up about a month ago, and I got my first Neutrogena products in the mail about a week ago.  I love this company already, and I can guarantee you’ll be hearing more about it from me in the future.

2. Mojitos

At least, I like to think so.

Why? It’s only fitting, since I just turned 21, that I share my favorite drink with you guys.  Over the past five days, I think I’ve consumed more mojitos than a vacationer in Mexico does in a month.  What could possibly be better than rum, mint, and lime?  So refreshing and tasty.

3. Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Why? This foundation has seriously been a life-saver for me lately.  Like most people, when I get stressed, I break out.  This lightweight formula has been able to cover all of my blemishes, leaving me with a flawless look.  I seriously recommend it for those of you who break out a lot, or even if you need a little bit of coverage.  You won’t be disappointed.

4. Train-Drive By

Why? I have been so obsessed with this song lately.  It has quite literally been on repeat the past few days.  My boyfriend actually had to take my iPod away from me on our trip to Milwaukee over the weekend because I wouldn’t stop playing it.  But he can’t control my blog! Muhahaha.  But really, it’s a happy, cute song, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have been.

5. Dan Brown

Why? I’ve heard time and time again how redundant and predictable his novels have come to be, but I’m currently reading The Lost Symbol after finishing The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons.  I will admit, Brown’s writing style is easily noticed throughout each book, and yes, you can somewhat predict the outcome of each story, but that doesn’t mean that the reading journey is any less good.  I’ve never really been a science fiction sort of gal, but his books make the genre interesting and exciting.

6. Harry’s Bar and Grille

Why? This has been my favorite restaurant as long as I can remember.  Some of my fondest memories with my dad include this restaurant, followed by walks along the piers on Lake Michigan.  I’m sure many of you don’t live in Milwaukee, nor have ever been to Milwaukee, but if you do come visit the great city, be sure to check out this restaurant.  They have the best Portland Sliders (burgers with eggs) and a to-die-for Turkey Avocado Club.

Spending Money Like It’s Going Out of Style

There is no other way to describe the last few days other than expensive.  Luckily for me, it was much more expensive for my boyfriend than for me.  As I mentioned in my last post, the boyfriend was going to take me shopping for my birthday instead of getting me a traditional gift.  The whole excursion took roughly three hours, and thankfully my boyfriend had his friend S along for the ride.  Nothing like discussing video games with your best friend while your girlfriend blows your bank account.  I ended up buying from H&M, Express, American Eagle, The Gap, and Charlotte Russe.  Warning: you are about to witness the aftermath of a dress-oholic.

So, without further ado, my haul.

H&M, $12.95 apiece

This was one of the first things I bought.  Overall, just two simple, solid-colored dresses.  I thought they’d be cute for day or night, so I ended up getting them in both orange and black.

H&M, $17.95

I’m usually not a big floral girl, but this dress was just calling my name.  I love how light and flawy it is, and I’ve always loved the high-waisted skirt look.  In fact, I have two other dresses very similar to this one.  Not as if I needed another, but when in Rome, right?

H&M, $12.95

This is by far my favorite dress out of the ones I bought.  I love the bohemian feel, along with the little braided belt that came with it.  Also, I think it highlights my curves without making me look fat, which is always a bonus.

Marshall’s, $29.99

For some reason, I have an obsession with white dresses.  Half of the dress collection I have is white.  To me, there’s just something so summery and beautiful about a white dress.  Hence, this lacy number.  This is the first one-shoulder dress that I’ve bought, and I was pretty happy with the price.  Usually Marshall’s requires a little bit of digging to find something lovely, and I’m glad I had the patience to find this.

Express, $59.90

To be completely honest, I’m still on the fence about this one.  I ended up getting it for 45% off because the store was running their 30% off sale, plus I had a coupon, so I don’t really feel guilty about buying it.  When I first tried it on, I thought it was cute and unique, but now the more I look at it the more I wonder what I was thinking.  What’s your opinion?

Express, $69.90

I’m pretty in love with this dress.  I love the cinched waist, and the little bit of leopard print adds a little bit of fun to a dress that might otherwise be considered stuffy.

Gap, $12.95

I really love this top.  It’s pretty casual, but that suits my lifestyle because nine times out of ten, I’m doing casual things.  It was originally around $40, but it was on sale for the above price, so I had to snatch it up.

Charlotte Russe, $5 apiece

Do you remember those sandals I bought from Charlotte Russe about a month ago?  Those cute ones with the orange beads?  Yeah, well, they broke.  One hour into wearing them, half of the beads fell off all over the pavement.  Needless to say, I decided to return them.  The employees gave me a really hard time about wearing them, even after I showed them the bottom of the shoes to prove that I hadn’t even gotten a chance to break them in.  Eventually, they agreed to give me a $10 store credit (even though the shoes were $34.95.  Yeah, I was kind of pissed.).  Since I couldn’t buy anything substantial with that amount of money, I took advantage of their $5 accessories sale and bought myself some bracelets and a new belt, in an attempt to make an effort to accessorize.

American Eagle, $34.95

I thought these were really cute, and I love the little silver detail and the braids.  However, I have tons of sandals.  Like, way too many.  These were kind of an impulse buy, so I’m debating returning them for something more practical, because realistically, these will get worn probably three times all summer since I have so many pairs already.

Whew!  That was exhausting.  Now, I’m off to find something to wear for dinner and drinks tonight with the girls.  It’s a little chilly, so I might have to forgo the dresses tonight.  Hope you’re all having a great week, and only one more day until the weekend!

Birthday Post

It’s official: I’m 21 years old!  Never thought this day would come, but boy am I glad it did.

Me, come the weekend.

Unfortunately, my birthday happened to fall on a Tuesday this year, so I won’t be able to really make my debut in the bar scene until Friday.  However, I did have my first bar experience at 12 am last night, at a little dive bar near my house.  There were about six other middle-aged people there, all of whom were drunk as skunks.  Kind of awkward, but I got a free Jaegerbomb and free pool out of it, so I’m not gonna complain.

As for today, I am currently waiting for my boyfriend to get done with class so he can take me shopping as a birthday present.  I can hear the collective gasps already: he didn’t get you anything?!  Some girls like flowers and jewelry and surprises.  I like being able to buy whatever my heart desires, courtesy of my boyfriend’s credit card.

Since I’m shopping later, I’ll definitely be posting my haul either later today or tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

Six Things I Love Sunday: April 22

Happy Sunday everyone!  I hope you’ve all had a good weekend so far.  Here’s my six things for this Sunday.

1. H&M

Why? I’m kind of a late bloomer when it comes to H&M, but lately, I make a beeline towards this store every time I find myself at the mall.  The clothes are so cheap and so cute, and you’ll never find anything cookie-cutter there, which is awesome.  The only problem I have with this store is that it can be hard to find a size because everything is so picked through, but that’s not necessarily the store’s fault.  Overall, I think it’s safe to say that this is my new favorite store.

2. Cho by Zoya

Why? I ordered this from Birchbox and just received it in the mail on Friday, and I am in love with the color.  For me, it’s the perfect color for a neutral polish.  I was a little disappointed that I had to paint on three coats for a good color, but for spending only $1 (I used my Birchbox points!), I’m pretty pleased.

3. Luke Bryan

Whatta hottie.

Why? I cannot get enough of his music lately.  Aside from the fact that he is incredibly easy on the eyes, I can’t wait for summer so I can roll down the windows and blast his music for all of the world to hear.  Plus, I can’t stop listening to this song.

4. PINK Crop Tees

Why? Okay, okay.  I know a couple weeks back I posted about how I love everything PINK, but I swear, this isn’t a repeat!  I have three of these shirts, and I think they’re just perfect for a day at the beach.  Granted, there haven’t been many beach days in Wisconsin yet, but I’ve been wearing them around the house almost everyday in anticipation of warmer days.  Plus, I love how versatile it is.  It looks great off the shoulder or hanging low in the front or back.  Plus, if you’re like me and don’t have a super-flat stomach, it still provides enough coverage so you don’t feel like your belly is all exposed and whatnot.

5. Marley and Me

Why? I know this movie had been out for quite awhile, but I’m talking about the book, not the film.  I just got done reading it on my Nook, and I’m not going to lie, I teared up at the end.  I’m a huge dog lover, so I probably shouldn’t have read this book to begin with since I knew the ending, but it was worth it.  If you have only see the movie, I definitely recommend you read the book too.  So much better.

6. Tamales

Why? I’ll admit, this is a kind of random thing to post, but I went out for Mexican with my mom last night and had the most delicious tamales.  It’s basically some sort of meat (I had chicken) rolled up in cornmeal dough, then baked in a corn husk.  So tasty, and easily one of my favorite foods.

Greetings From My New Macbook Pro!

So, my mom decided to surprise me today and take me to the Apple Store so I could pick out my new Mac.  If you recall my post from earlier this week, I was debating between the Macbook Pro and Air, and, as you can see from the title, I ended up with the 15″ Macbook Pro.  I’ve literally used it for about the last fifteen minutes, but so far, I’m in love.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Macbook Pro vs. Macbook Air?

I am fortunate enough to be receiving a new computer for my birthday in five (FIVE!!) days, which will include my mom taking me to the Apple store to pick out either a Macbook Pro or Air, since my Dell laptop has gone to crap over the last four years.

How I feel about half the time.

The only problem with this is that I have hardly any knowledge of Apple.  My experience with the company consists of owning an iPod Touch, and that’s about it.  My brother recently bought a Macbook Pro, and he says he likes it, but when I’ve searched reviews online, I get everything from, “The Pro is heavy and cheap-looking compared to the Air” to “The Air is too small and has hardly any storage.”

So, I’ve decided to ask the blogging community for a little bit of help.  I’m assuming a lot of you guys have Macs, or know more about them than I do.  So, I ask you.  Which Mac should I get, Pro or Air?  And why? I will primarily be using my laptop for school and entertainment, so if that factors into anything, there you go.

Unmotivated Girl Problems

Every single day I go through the same exact thought process.

Going to bed, 1 am: Tomorrow, I’m going to go work out.  I’m going to eat healthy and go to the gym and feel better about myself.

Wake up, 10 am: Ugh, I’m tired.  I’ll just read some blogs on WordPress, check my Facebook, then go get some breakfast.

11 am: I’m really full.  Maybe I should do some homework while I wait for my stomach to settle.

3 pm: Boyfriend will be home from school soon. Maybe I can convince him to take the dog for a walk with me.

4 pm: Boyfriend won’t go. What a surprise.  I need to start making dinner soon.

7 pm: I’m full.  Maybe I should do some knitting.

1 am: Why didn’t I work out today? Tomorrow I’m going to go to the gym.

Repeat cycle.

I lack motivation.  I’ll be the first to admit it.  When it comes to getting homework done or meeting a deadline, I’m on that shit like white on rice.  But when it comes to self-discipline or perseverance, I tend to let things slide.  A lot.

I’ve tried motivational quotes, eating plans, guilting myself into working out by reading other people’s weight-loss experiences.  Nothing sticks.  I go a week or two really motivated and excited about what I’m doing, then I miss one day and everything goes downhill.  I’m sure a lot of people have this problem, but when all I see is successful people, it makes it that much more difficult.

Whenever I get on one of my healthy kicks, my boyfriend is always really motivating and helpful.  However, he has the exact opposite problem that I do.  He can’t put on weight to save his life, whereas I eat a piece of bread and I can see the outlines of the crust in my belly two hours later.  He won’t work out with me, or try to eat healthy with me either.  It kind of makes sense, since he needs to eat like four pizzas a day to maintain his current body weight of 125 lbs, but things would be so much easier if I had someone who was trying to get healthy with me.

Or maybe I’m just making excuses.  Maybe things wouldn’t be any easier if my boyfriend, or anyone for that matter, was on board.  Maybe I just need to woman-up and deal with weight loss the same way I deal with homework and deadlines: with a no-nonsense attitude.  Maybe I just need to reread this post everyday to remind me of my feelings towards getting healthy and hope that it does the trick.  Or maybe I’m just destined to become a four hundred pound old woman with thirty-seven cats.  But I seriously hope not, because I hate cats.

What keeps you motivated on a daily basis?

April Birchbox

So instead of my usual Six Things I Love Sunday, I’m just going to show you guys what I got in my Birchbox this month.  Overall, it was kind of hard to one-up last month’s box, which was full of full-sized products instead of tiny samples, but I was happy with what I received.

From left to right: Befine Skincare Sampler, Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift, Lulu Organics Lavender and Clary Sage Hair Powder, Yes to Blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes

Befine Skincare Sampler

The skincare sampler came with five little sample packets which were either exfoliators or moisturizers, which is actually pretty nice.  What I like about this is that it gives me a chance to try something new without buying an entire bottle.  Its full size sells for $25, so I’ll have to see how well these work before I buy.

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift

I actually wasn’t too fond of this fragrance.  To me, it kind of smelled like cotton candy or something, just a little too sweet for my liking.  It almost reminded me of cheap perfumes for little girls.  I feel kind of bad saying that because I like Taylor Swift, but she needs to stick to singing, not to perfume-making.

Lulu Organics Lavender and Clary Sage Hair Powder

I have not tried this out yet, but already I’m a little weary.  I have some dry shampoo that I use every once in awhile, but for some reason it doesn’t blend into my hair.  It just sits on top of my head and gives my hair a weird grayish tinge, no matter how much I try to rub it in.  I’m sure at some point I’ll end up trying this, but for now I’d rather just wash my hair than risk embarrassing myself.

Yes To Blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes

I absolutely adored these.  This 8-pack was Birchbox’s “Beauty Extra” for the month, which I thought was a great addition.  I tried one already, and it’s super soft on the face, not abrasive and drying like a lot of towelettes can be.  It doubles as a makeup remover and refresher, and I could actually notice a difference on my skin (or maybe that was wishful thinking. Who knows.).

I also got this Zoya polish from their TRUE Spring Collection, and I love love love the color they sent me!  It’s called Bevin.  I’m a pretty big Zoya fan, so I was definitely happy to see this in my box.  In the photo the color looks kind of blueish gray, but it’s actually more of a greenish gray in person.  Regardless, I don’t really have any colors similar to it, so I’m happy.

Also, I just reached 225 points on Birchbox, which means I get $20 off my next purchase!  I’m pretty excited because I’ve been on a lipstick and nail polish kick lately, so hopefully that extra $20 will satisfy my makeup craving for a little while. 🙂

What kind of makeup or nail polish are you loving right now?

Well, I Finished!

With an hour and a half to spare, I finished my friend’s afghan.  After five days, 14 balls of yarn, and roughly forty hours put in, I can’t believe I pulled it off.

Unfortunately, since I quite literally finished at the eleventh hour, I wasn’t able to take pictures of my completed blanket.  But surprisingly, it turned out really beautifully, and my friend loved it.  Plus, it looked pretty darn good next to the Walmart candle my other friend bought her as a housewarming gift. 🙂

Just thought I should share this update with you guys, in case anyone was wondering if I pulled it off in time.  How were your Saturday nights?

Eight Balls of Yarn Later…

In the last four days I think I’ve knit more than I have in my entire life.  My hands are cramping, I’m losing motivation, and, quite simply, I’m sick of knitting the same pattern over and over and over.  And so far, I’m only about halfway done.

I laid the ruler on the pattern to give you guys an idea of how large it is.  It’s about 48″ wide and 30″ long, so far.  I have to finish by Saturday for my friend’s party, so hopefully I can keep trekking through.  I’m not going to lie though, for my next housewarming party, I’m going to need at least two weeks heads up in order to finish something like this again.

The only thing keeping me going is seeing how well it’s turning out.  I’ve made a few mistakes, but this is actually the first afghan I’ve ever knit, and I’m really surprised at how beautiful it looks.  It always amazes me some of the things you can create with your hands, and I’m really proud of myself because I’ve never been very creative.  It’s good to know that I’ve found my creative calling.

Now, I’m off to Michael’s to buy out their entire yarn department again.
