Only One Exam and Paper To Go…

I think this is the longest I’ve gone without posting since I started this blog.  I remember when I first started blogging a few months ago, I had convinced myself that I would post every day, no matter what, about interesting and insightful topics.

Then life got in the way.

This week is my finals week.  Yesterday consisted of a four page paper, an exam, and two reviews and memos for other classmates.  Today will be finishing up my fifteen page paper for my Social Media class (I’m at six pages right now) and taking my final exam for another class.  Then I will officially be done with my junior year of college, which sounds really scary to me.

Last week was a lot of the same.  Trying to get things together for peer reviews, studying for Biology and Environmental Science, and catching up on all of the articles I skipped for my film class.  I was really going strong until spring break (which, mind you, was about two months ago).  After that, my motivation essentially became nonexistent, which is why I am now frantically trying to get my shit together before the semester ends.

My life at this point.

On a lighter note, during this crazy past week, I still managed to create a really beautiful afghan for my boyfriend’s mom for Mother’s Day.  Once again, I finished it at the eleventh hour, with literally an hour to spare.  And, once again, I didn’t have the time to take a decent picture of it, mostly because for each picture I put up on here, I take about fifteen others that I discard due to lighting, blurriness, etc.  I really just need a new camera.  Or maybe I need to learn to take better pictures.  Nah, let’s blame the camera.

Unfortunately, my relentless studying has also pushed my P90X workouts to the back burner.  I completed four workouts in the last week, which isn’t bad, but I definitely don’t have the results to show for it.  I have lost no weight, no inches, no nothing.  I’m pretty sure my vegging out while studying probably counteracted anything I burned during the workouts.  This week should be better, since my boyfriend will be participating more now that he’s done with school and has more free time.  He’s pretty much my main motivator when it comes to working out, so I’m really relying on him to continue this P90X journey with me.

I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day and weekend!

I Might Have the Best Job Ever

No really, it’s true.  Thanks to Elance, I just got hired as a personal dating assistant.

I know what you’re thinking.  Is that even real? Or, how does that work? Or even perhaps, where can I sign up?

My “manager” (that sounds way too weird for the circumstances) posted an ad on Elance for someone to manage her and her boyfriend’s dating life.  He has a dating assistant too, so essentially, we just come up with fun, adventurous ideas for dates and send them there.  Oh, and did I mention I’m getting paid $10 an hour to do this?

I know.  It’s unreal.

We had a nice little Skype interview, since she, her boyfriend, and the other assistant all live in New York while I’m stuck out in Wisconsin.  They both seem really fun and spunky and I can’t wait to get started.  It’s almost like living vicariously through them, since I am nowhere near wealthy enough to go out on the dates that I’ve already got cooked up for them.

The other dating assistant and I also are in charge of some different social media sites on which we keep track of everything we’re doing in this unique experience.  You can check them out here:

Banter: https://banters.com/wall/secretary-of-romance
Another Banter for the assistants: http://thehelp.banters.com

Tumblr: http://secretaryofromance.tumblr.com (nothing up here yet, but stay tuned!)

Another thing you guys should check out is Bianca (that’s my…manager?)’s tumblr.  So creative and fun!

Well that’s all for today!  Hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday!

Day 2 of P90X: P is for Plyometrics

P is also for pathetic, which is the best way to describe my boyfriend and I today during out exercises.

Let me put it this way: we didn’t even make it through the whole workout.

Before today, I hadn’t the slightest idea what plyometrics was.  Apparently it involves a lot of jumping, squatting, and sweating, at least in my case.  Not necessarily something that’s good for someone with a bad knee, but it turns out that my knee was the least of my problems.  My quads and hamstrings started seizing up halfway through the workout, so I had to stop.  Now, it’s all I can do to get out of bed without groaning in pain.

I thought yesterday’s arms and chest workout was bad, but that was nothing compared to today.

Tony Horton, you will be the death of me.

Tomorrow is shoulders and arms.  Sounds like more pull ups and pushups like yesterday.  Oh joy. Wish me luck.

Day One of P90X

There is only one way to describe the first day of P90X: a struggle.  It hurts to even lift my arms to the laptop to type this post, so I can only imagine how I’ll feel come the morning.  My boyfriend and I did the 60 minute chest and arms workout, and collapsed on the floor full of relief when it was over, only to realize that the DVD kept going and we still had 15 minutes of the Ab Ripper to do.  We made it through about eight minutes then called it quits.

As painful as the workouts were, I’m still excited to be doing this program.  Normally after a workout I’m ready to commit myself to a life on the couch eating potato chips by the bag, but not today.  My motivation is high, and it helps that I wrote down all my  measurements and weighed myself beforehand.  Seeing those numbers everyday will help keep me motivated to eat right, work through the program, and hopefully lead a healthier lifestyle from here on out.

Now, I have to finish my 12 page paper and I have a date with my hot tub later.  Hope you all had a great Sunday!

Six Things I Love Sunday: May 6

Hello all!  Today is going to be a busy posting day for me.  I posted earlier this morning about receiving P90X, and I’ve decided that every day I will post about my progress with the program.  And of course, I can’t forget about Six Things Sunday!  So here we go.

1. Pinterest

Why? At first I was a little slow on the uptake with this site, but I’ve come to love it.  For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, Pinterest is a virtual pinboard on which you pin photos of anything you want.  You can organize the pins in folders too, so you can easily access exactly which pin you want.  Unlike a lot of people I follow on Pinterest, I actually use the pins that I post.  It’s a great place to find new recipes, gets some crafting inspiration, or even learn new workouts, among a multitude of other things.  I suggest you check it out, and while you’re at it, go ahead and follow me. 🙂

2. Wedges

Why? When it comes to heels, these are my shoe of choice.  I am not a girl that can wear sky high stilettos without breaking an ankle or two, so wedges are my go-to option if I want to add some height.  Plus, nothing says summer like a cute pair of wedges.  I’m sorry, but when I’m walking around Summerfest later this year, the last thing I want is to trip and spill my $6 Miller Lite everywhere while getting my stiletto stuck in some random crack in the ground.  Wedges will ensure that this will not happen.

 3. Jeopardy!

What a guy.

Why? I have been watching this show for years.  And when I say years, I mean a decade.  I remember spending weekends at my dad’s house when I was younger, and on Friday nights we would always watch Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune back to back because he didn’t have cable.  This early exposure turned me into a Jeopardy! fiend.  I watch the show almost every single day, and I can’t get enough of Alex Trebek’s dry wit.  My ultimate goal in life is to be on this show, but I’d be lucky if I could even beat a monkey.  Oh well.  A girl can dream, right?

4. Nook Color by Barnes and Noble

Why? I used to be an avid reader.  When I was younger, I would plow through books like my life depended on it.  Even in school, while the teacher was talking, I would be reading textbooks and taking notes ahead of time just because I enjoyed doing it (nerd status, right?).  Surprisingly, this love for note-taking has stuck with me as I’ve gotten older, but for awhile, I completely stopped reading for pleasure.  After I started college, I was so overwhelmed with my course load that the last thing I wanted to do was pick up a book and read it for fun.  Then, I got my Nook for Christmas, and I haven’t put it down.  Since December, I have read 21 books, which is more than I had read in the last four years combined.  I know that a lot of people hate tablets because you don’t get the actual feel of holding a book, turning its pages, etc.  I had these same worries too.  But once you get past the electronic-ness of the Nook, it’s so much better than lugging a book around with you.  I can access thousands of books with a simple touch.  I get magazine subscriptions, many of which have a free monthly trial.  Plus, I’ve found free knitting patterns on my Nook, which is great for when I need a simple project to work on and don’t feel like buying a book of patterns.  Okay, I’m rambling now.  Long story short, I love my Nook, and you should definitely check it out.

5. Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner

Why? I received this in my BzzAgent campaign box a couple weeks ago, but Friday was the first time I got around to using it.  I went through a pretty intense eyeliner phase in my teens, and I now cringe realizing how much a raccoon and I had in common.  The past few years, I’ve opted for a more natural look, which requires me shunning eyeliner altogether.  Until Friday.  My friend and I went out to the bars, so I thought I’d give this eyeliner a try.  Not only did it make my eyes pop, but it comes with a smudger, providing me with a perfect smoky eye.  I had never been able to get the smoky eye down before, but the smudger really made all the difference.  The eyeliner comes in four different colors, and it’s only $7.49 on Neutrogena’s website.

6. That Moment When You Finish a Really Long Paper

Precisely.

Why? I don’t think this even needs an explanation.  I have a 12 page paper due tonight about social media.  Haven’t even started.  Wish me luck!

Tomorrow is the Day!

This morning I was super excited to walk downstairs and find this waiting for me.

I was actually pretty surprised to see that it had come so quickly, especially because fedex.com was telling me not to expect it until Wednesday.  Thankfully, it came today, so I can get my week started off right tomorrow by enduring my very first P90X session.

As you can see, the box came with waaay more stuff than I thought it would.  I assumed it would just be the DVDs, but it came with nutrition and fitness guides, a quick start guide, and a calendar to track your progress.  I’m definitely going to be using the nutrition guide and calendar, because I want to do this right.  Too often have I started and stopped a diet just because I have one off day and everything goes to hell after that.  Not this time.  Not only do I want to do well with this program, but I need to do well.  I paid $140 bucks for this thing, and I’m sure as hell not going to let that go to waste.

That brings me to another point.  You would think that since I paid enough money to have bought about four pairs of jeans at American Eagle, they would include absolutely everything I need to succeed with this program.  But no.  Apparently to do some of the workouts, I have to go out and buy a pull up bar and resistance bands.  Okay, I realize that buying these things probably doesn’t cost much, but I’m a poor college student!  That $140 bucks could have fed me for three weeks!  I paid $140 bucks expecting that it would include everything I needed, and to find out that after dropping that much cash they expect you to buy more, it kind of pisses me off.  Am I alone in this?  Or is it common knowledge that they don’t send you everything and I just missed the memo?

Alright, that was my rant for the day.  I really am excited to start the program tomorrow.  I’m just hoping that half of the workouts don’t require this extra exercise equipment, because my bank account can’t handle any more abuse for awhile.

Jumping on the P90X Bandwagon

Yesterday, I finally decided to do something with my exercise-life.  I’ve been consistently walking mine and my neighbor’s dogs for the past few days, and when I came home last night, I said to my boyfriend, “Let’s order P90X.”

For those of you who don’t know what P90X is, it’s a workout program through which you follow along on DVDs.  The program is ninety days long, hence, P90X.  Supposedly, you’re supposed to get ripped as f**k.  I’ve had a few friends who have tried it, and although they didn’t finish the whole ninety days, I could definitely tell that they had lost weight and it was working for them.

The reason I’m posting about this is because I’m curious if any of you guys have tried it, specifically, females.  My friends that have used it are all males, so I don’t really have a female opinion to go with.  I suppose I should have asked this before I paid the $140 to get it, but I’ve been known for being a bit impulsive.  Thankfully, I didn’t regret the purchase when I woke up this morning, which is more than I can say for a lot of other things I buy.

So, once again. What are your thoughts on P90X?  Have you tried it? Tell me!

Six Things I Love…Monday?

Alright. I don’t want to be one of those bloggers who apologizes for not posting, but here I am.  Celebrating a little too much for my birthday coupled with a wedding shower and tons of homework this weekend, I find myself finally getting around to writing my weekly post on a Monday.  Whoops, sorry guys.  I know you were all just dying to see what I’m currently loving.  Right?  Right?

1. BzzAgent Why? According to their website, “Connecting people and their favorite brands since 2001, BzzAgent is the leading social marketing company.”  Essentially, this company hands out free products to consumers like you and me, who then “buzz” about their experience with the product.  These bzzagents get the word out about these products via social media or word of mouth.  I signed up about a month ago, and I got my first Neutrogena products in the mail about a week ago.  I love this company already, and I can guarantee you’ll be hearing more about it from me in the future.

2. Mojitos

At least, I like to think so.

Why? It’s only fitting, since I just turned 21, that I share my favorite drink with you guys.  Over the past five days, I think I’ve consumed more mojitos than a vacationer in Mexico does in a month.  What could possibly be better than rum, mint, and lime?  So refreshing and tasty.

3. Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Why? This foundation has seriously been a life-saver for me lately.  Like most people, when I get stressed, I break out.  This lightweight formula has been able to cover all of my blemishes, leaving me with a flawless look.  I seriously recommend it for those of you who break out a lot, or even if you need a little bit of coverage.  You won’t be disappointed.

4. Train-Drive By

Why? I have been so obsessed with this song lately.  It has quite literally been on repeat the past few days.  My boyfriend actually had to take my iPod away from me on our trip to Milwaukee over the weekend because I wouldn’t stop playing it.  But he can’t control my blog! Muhahaha.  But really, it’s a happy, cute song, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have been.

5. Dan Brown

Why? I’ve heard time and time again how redundant and predictable his novels have come to be, but I’m currently reading The Lost Symbol after finishing The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons.  I will admit, Brown’s writing style is easily noticed throughout each book, and yes, you can somewhat predict the outcome of each story, but that doesn’t mean that the reading journey is any less good.  I’ve never really been a science fiction sort of gal, but his books make the genre interesting and exciting.

6. Harry’s Bar and Grille

Why? This has been my favorite restaurant as long as I can remember.  Some of my fondest memories with my dad include this restaurant, followed by walks along the piers on Lake Michigan.  I’m sure many of you don’t live in Milwaukee, nor have ever been to Milwaukee, but if you do come visit the great city, be sure to check out this restaurant.  They have the best Portland Sliders (burgers with eggs) and a to-die-for Turkey Avocado Club.

What are you loving right now?

Spending Money Like It’s Going Out of Style

There is no other way to describe the last few days other than expensive.  Luckily for me, it was much more expensive for my boyfriend than for me.  As I mentioned in my last post, the boyfriend was going to take me shopping for my birthday instead of getting me a traditional gift.  The whole excursion took roughly three hours, and thankfully my boyfriend had his friend S along for the ride.  Nothing like discussing video games with your best friend while your girlfriend blows your bank account.  I ended up buying from H&M, Express, American Eagle, The Gap, and Charlotte Russe.  Warning: you are about to witness the aftermath of a dress-oholic.

So, without further ado, my haul.

H&M, $12.95 apiece

This was one of the first things I bought.  Overall, just two simple, solid-colored dresses.  I thought they’d be cute for day or night, so I ended up getting them in both orange and black.

H&M, $17.95

I’m usually not a big floral girl, but this dress was just calling my name.  I love how light and flawy it is, and I’ve always loved the high-waisted skirt look.  In fact, I have two other dresses very similar to this one.  Not as if I needed another, but when in Rome, right?

H&M, $12.95

This is by far my favorite dress out of the ones I bought.  I love the bohemian feel, along with the little braided belt that came with it.  Also, I think it highlights my curves without making me look fat, which is always a bonus.

Marshall’s, $29.99

For some reason, I have an obsession with white dresses.  Half of the dress collection I have is white.  To me, there’s just something so summery and beautiful about a white dress.  Hence, this lacy number.  This is the first one-shoulder dress that I’ve bought, and I was pretty happy with the price.  Usually Marshall’s requires a little bit of digging to find something lovely, and I’m glad I had the patience to find this.

Express, $59.90

To be completely honest, I’m still on the fence about this one.  I ended up getting it for 45% off because the store was running their 30% off sale, plus I had a coupon, so I don’t really feel guilty about buying it.  When I first tried it on, I thought it was cute and unique, but now the more I look at it the more I wonder what I was thinking.  What’s your opinion?

Express, $69.90

I’m pretty in love with this dress.  I love the cinched waist, and the little bit of leopard print adds a little bit of fun to a dress that might otherwise be considered stuffy.

Gap, $12.95

I really love this top.  It’s pretty casual, but that suits my lifestyle because nine times out of ten, I’m doing casual things.  It was originally around $40, but it was on sale for the above price, so I had to snatch it up.

Charlotte Russe, $5 apiece

Do you remember those sandals I bought from Charlotte Russe about a month ago?  Those cute ones with the orange beads?  Yeah, well, they broke.  One hour into wearing them, half of the beads fell off all over the pavement.  Needless to say, I decided to return them.  The employees gave me a really hard time about wearing them, even after I showed them the bottom of the shoes to prove that I hadn’t even gotten a chance to break them in.  Eventually, they agreed to give me a $10 store credit (even though the shoes were $34.95.  Yeah, I was kind of pissed.).  Since I couldn’t buy anything substantial with that amount of money, I took advantage of their $5 accessories sale and bought myself some bracelets and a new belt, in an attempt to make an effort to accessorize.

American Eagle, $34.95

I thought these were really cute, and I love the little silver detail and the braids.  However, I have tons of sandals.  Like, way too many.  These were kind of an impulse buy, so I’m debating returning them for something more practical, because realistically, these will get worn probably three times all summer since I have so many pairs already.

Whew!  That was exhausting.  Now, I’m off to find something to wear for dinner and drinks tonight with the girls.  It’s a little chilly, so I might have to forgo the dresses tonight.  Hope you’re all having a great week, and only one more day until the weekend!

Birthday Post

It’s official: I’m 21 years old!  Never thought this day would come, but boy am I glad it did.

Me, come the weekend.

Unfortunately, my birthday happened to fall on a Tuesday this year, so I won’t be able to really make my debut in the bar scene until Friday.  However, I did have my first bar experience at 12 am last night, at a little dive bar near my house.  There were about six other middle-aged people there, all of whom were drunk as skunks.  Kind of awkward, but I got a free Jaegerbomb and free pool out of it, so I’m not gonna complain.

As for today, I am currently waiting for my boyfriend to get done with class so he can take me shopping as a birthday present.  I can hear the collective gasps already: he didn’t get you anything?!  Some girls like flowers and jewelry and surprises.  I like being able to buy whatever my heart desires, courtesy of my boyfriend’s credit card.

Since I’m shopping later, I’ll definitely be posting my haul either later today or tomorrow.  Stay tuned!
